It's that time of year. Autumn. The time when the weather cools down, you can break out your sweaters and scarves, and everything is apple and pumpkin themed. I freaking love autumn! The thing is, these days everyone seems to love autumn. There have been an abundance of facebook and blog posts lately proclaiming the love of fall colors and pumpkin spice lattes. While I wholeheartedly agree with every single ode to autumn, I sort of feel like no one else should get to proclaim their love. I'm a fall baby and growing up I was typically one of three with a November birthday in my class. Fall was my time. And mine alone. So who are all these people coming out of the woodwork trying to steal my most beloved season?
Summer a few years ago. Notice the pants? Clearly not 100+ degree weather. |
As I work to conquer my obviously undeserving jealousy, I'm also dealing with the fact that, for the first time in ages, I don't feel ready for fall. Don't get me wrong, I'm still looking forward to fall, but I don't feel like I really got to experience summer this year. It's just been too freaking hot! Where the barbeques, the camping trips, and the kayaking?? For this reason I've decided not to leap into fall, but to ease into it. I might break out the sweaters and boots, but who said I have to give up on key lime pie and strawberry ice cream??
So to celebrate the end of the summer, here's my tastebuds' favorite part of summer!
Mark's Award-Winning Strawberry Ice Cream:
2 packages -10 oz.- frozen strawberries thawed and drained. (sliced is best)
2 c. granulated sugar
4 c. sour cream
2 c. granulated sugar
4 c. sour cream
(My ice cream maker is a little smaller, so I halve the recipe.)
